The UK has changed dramatically over the last 50 years.  If we feel that things have gone too far, we need to have some understanding of why we changed in the first place – what we (or our parents) were reacting to and what we were trying to put right.  Then we can start to work out what can be done about the excesses of the last decades – without throwing the baby out with the bathwater.
